Sa Re Ga Ma Pa

Last night I was watching Zee TV. For those of you that do not know of this program, it’s a program where 3 seasoned bollywood script writers have trained their own candidates and there’s a competition between them and the best vocal singer gets to be chosen by the indian tv audience. Yes by the Indian public !!! The total number of votes received by all of these candidates in the final contest is an overwhelming 12+ million votes. These votes were received by either SMS or email.
Indian audience does amazing things. Did NOKIA or Ericsson have any clue about the power of Indian audience when they denied negotiatons with Mukesh Ambani 5 years ago. Have they ever heard of such numbers anywhere in the world ? The mobile network providers in India are one of the cheapest in the world. Of all the providers surprisingly BSNL the state owned enterprise is becoming a great competitor by providing mediocre service but great rates. In spite of such numbers, why couldn’t non-Asian operators jump into the Indian market although an attempt by AT&T appeared to be half-hearted and could not survive. Amongst the outsiders Hutch is the only one that is doing good so far and Vodafone is making its way thru investments.
Western strategists did not prove in China, neither will they in India. Doing business in India is not the same as doing in China either. Sa re ga ma pa ..pa ni dha sa re.
